When our dog or cat or any other animal dies, the mourning is intense. We are aware that death is only natural, but that little creature has filled us with affection and has been there for us every step of the way.
Saying goodbye to them for the last time, together with the rest of the family, is as important as saying goodbye to a human being. With a ceremony we can thank them for the love they gave us, remember together the funny things they used to do, share our grief with others.
The ceremony can take place where they are buried or at home before they are taken away. As the celebrant, I will help you find the words and gestures to say goodbye to them, and it will be like giving them a last caress.
Not the least hard thing to bear when they go from us, these quiet friends, is that they carry away with them so many years of our own lives. (John Galsworthy)
